Elements of resistance in the poetry of Dr. Maqsood Jafari
Abstract
Dr. Maqsood Jafri is a renowned Urdu writer and poet. In poetry, he wrote poetry not only in Urdu, but also in English, Persian, Punjabi and Kashmiri languages and tried his hand at nazm and ghazal, both genres. In ghazal, he is considered as one of the prominent poets of modern ghazal and he has covered diverse themes in his ghazal. Just as any writer is influenced by the circumstances around him and their reflection is seen in his literature, in the same way, Dr. Maqsood Jafari has covered many topics of the present era in his poems. He is not only a poet but also an excellent human being, a thinker, politician and advocate of freedom of thought and expression. All this is clearly visible in his poetry and he comes out as a resister against anti-human elements and opposes dictatorship and anyone who suppresses freedom of thought and expression. His resistance poetry fulfills the vacuum of resistances which is a need of the hour. In the article under review, the resistance elements have been identified in the poetry of Dr. Maqsood Jafri.
