Keywords:
Classicism, Romanticism, literary movements, objectivity, emotion, imagination, discipline, art, creativityAbstract
This paper presents a comparative analysis of two significant literary movements: Classicism and Romanticism. Classicism emphasizes reason, order, discipline, and objectivity, often drawing inspiration from ancient Greek and Roman literature. In contrast, Romanticism values emotion, imagination, and personal experience, arising as a reaction against the strict rules of Classicism. The study explores the key characteristics of both movements, highlighting their influence on literature and art. Through examples from major literary figures like John Milton, William Wordsworth, and Lord Byron, this paper illustrates how these movements differ in their portrayal of nature, human experience, and artistic expression. The analysis concludes that while Classicism focuses on structure and restraint, Romanticism celebrates emotional freedom and creativity.
