Abstract

Characters are an essential element of any story. It is through characters that a story is created, and it is the characters that bring movement and progression to the narrative, allowing the storyteller to take the story forward with excitement. Damodar Das Khatri is the first Punjabi storyteller who established the tradition of storytelling in Punjabi by writing the tale of Heer Ranjha. "Heer" is the most important character in Damodar Das's story. Damodar's Heer is a courageous woman. She possesses three strengths: wisdom, great courage, and physical strength. She does not shy away from challenges, no matter how difficult they may be.
