T.S. Eliot’s poem The Waste Land is a landmark work of twentieth-century poetry that symbolically depicts the spiritual, cultural and intellectual crisis following World War I. In this complex and lengthy poem, Eliot employs various religious, philosophical and literary allusions to express the post-war social and spiritual void. This study provides a detailed analysis of Rafiq Khawar’s Urdu translation Ujra Diar, which uniquely presents the meaning and structure of Eliot’s poem to the Urdu-speaking audience. Khawar’s translation places special emphasis on multilingual vocabulary, cultural references and symbolic characterizations, making the poem’s complex themes more accessible to Urdu readers. The paper highlights the poem’s language, intertextuality, cultural Synthesis and existential anxiety, while also discussing the artistic and literary qualities of Khawar’s translation along with some critical perspectives. Ultimately, Rafiq Khawar’s translation is regarded as a significant effort to promote modernism in Urdu literature and to establish a connection with global literary traditions.
