The last decade of the 20th century proved to be a turning point for Saraiki poetry, particularly for the genre of nazm (poem). During this period, the nazm evolved beyond traditional boundaries, embracing modern forms, diverse themes, and innovative styles. Prominent poets such as Saeed Akhtar Sial, Hussain Gohar,Atta Muhammad Dilshad,Riaz Qaisrani, Saleem Ahsan, Sehr Siyal, Aziz Shahid and others enriched the genre with socio-political consciousness, cultural identity, and emotional depth. Their work highlighted the struggles and deprivations of the Saraiki region while emphasizing human values, resistance, and hope. The active participation of female poets brought fresh perspectives and strengthened the expressive power of Saraiki poetry. Thus, the final decade of the twentieth century may rightly be regarded as the peak of Saraiki nazm, in which it asserted itself as a vibrant and influential literary form, deeply rooted in the language, land, and culture of the Saraiki people.
