Role of Women in Modern Saraiki Novels
Keywords:
modern Siraiki novels, cultural representation, Siraiki novelists, economic dependency, awarenessAbstract
This research paper examines the portrayal of women in modern Siraiki novels, focusing on their social, psychological, and cultural representation. Modern Siraiki fiction reflects a significant shift from traditional portrayals of women as passive, silent, and marginalized figures toward more complex, conscious, and resistant characters. The study highlights how contemporary Siraiki novelists present women not only as victims of patriarchy, feudal oppression, and social injustice but also as agents of change who challenge oppressive norms and assert their identity. The abstract explores major themes such as gender discrimination, domestic oppression, forced marriages, economic dependency, and the struggle for self-respect. It also analyzes how education, awareness, and social change influence the evolving image of women in these novels. Modern Siraiki novelists use female characters to critique rigid social structures and to expose the deep-rooted inequalities prevailing in Siraiki society.
