Allama Muhammad Iqbal, known as the "Poet of the East," tried to awaken the world through his poetry. He made people aware of the problems facing humanity. According to him, the greatest of these problems were religious and moral issues. He advised the Muslim Ummah to stay away from the Western way of life because he believed that the people of the West had gone astray. He warned against secularism, sectarianism, the cultural invasion of the West, and the negative trends associated with modern scientific knowledge. He also drew attention to moral values, the issue of Ijtihad (independent reasoning in Islamic law), and problems related to religious education. He emphasized that Muslims should adopt Islamic teachings in their true spirit. He presented his great concepts of Khudi (selfhood), Momin (the true believer), and Shaheen (the eagle), especially to Muslims and to the world at large. Today, his poetry has been translated into many languages around the world.
