Abstract

In Urdu literature, there is a strong tradition of social portrayal and depiction of society in novels. Although any novel written on any subject inherently contains social reflection, no novelist can completely distance themselves from or ignore society while creating a novel. However, some novelists stand out for their vibrant representation of historical consciousness and social depiction in their works. Muhammad Hafeez Khan is one such novelist whose novels provide an excellent depiction of society. In both of Hafeez Khan's novels, "Haider  Goth ka Bakhshan" and "Wujood," the manner of social portrayal presents diverse aspects of society. An examination of the author's social consciousness in the context of these two novels reveals various shades of societal imagery.
