A Research and Critical Review of Shamsur Rahman's Novel "Kai Chand Thaye Sar-e-Asmaan"
Abstract
Shams-ur-Rehman Farooqui is a well known literary figure who initially established his name in urdu criticism. As editor of literay journal “Shab Khoon” he not only challenged the traditional critical theories but also reserved himself and his journal pages for new and modern thoughts in prose and verse.Farooqui, by his critical thought, introduced new angles of literature i.e., eastern poetics exploring of ancient classic literature and uniqueness of Meer Taqi Meer. He was a keen researcher and always tried to bring new aspects. As an artist (Creative Writer), he wrote many short stories but his novel “Kai Chand Thay Sar-e-Asman (Mirror of Beauty) gave him fame. He potrays old Indian culture prevailed in 18th & 19th centuries B.C. The story has many historic persons (including the central character Wazir Begum) which made this historic too. The plot contains the materials in shape of events which become the causes of down fall of Mughal Kingdom & great civilization. As fiction writer, Shams used multiple artistic tools & techniques to intact the reader’s intention and interest. In this article efforts have been made analyse the story & develop some point of views.
