Abstract

This research article examines the role of Shamoil Ahmad as a representative novelist of the Dalit community in Urdu literature. Through his powerful novel Chamrasur, Shamoil Ahmad brings to light the harsh realities of caste oppression, social exclusion, and the struggle for Dalit identity. His narrative blends social realism with literary resistance, portraying Dalits not merely as victims but as agents of change. Despite not being a Dalit himself, Shamoil Ahmad gives voice to the silenced, making his work a significant contribution to Urdu Dalit fiction. This is the voice of protest from a class that has, for centuries, been subjected not only to caste-based discrimination, untouchability, and social prejudice, but also deprived of access to education, places of worship, and social equality. Dalit literature is the aesthetic expression of emotions and experiences forged in the furnace of such oppression. It has emerged in the form of short stories, novels, poetry, drama, autobiographies, travelogues, and essays. This literature reflects the intensity of pain, the voice of resistance, the light of awakening, and the search for identity. In Dalit literature, the theme is not just victimhood—it is also a continuous struggle to assert, to be heard, and to be recognized.
