Abstract

This dissertation explores the centrality of nostalgia in the poetry of Nasir Kazmi, with particular emphasis on his ghazals. Nostalgia, once narrowly defined as homesickness, emerges in Kazmi’s work as a profound literary and psychological construct. His poetry reflects memories of migration, longing for homeland, childhood innocence, failed love, and the companionship of friends, all transformed into artistic expression. Kazmi’s verses juxtapose the simplicity of the past with the complexities of the present, creating a poetic space where personal grief resonates universally. His nostalgic imagery rural landscapes, youthful experiences, and lost relationships serves both as recollection and as a means of coping with displacement and alienation. Through this lens, Nasir Kazmi’s ghazals demonstrate how nostalgia functions simultaneously as an individual emotional state and a collective cultural memory, preserving identity while offering solace in uncertain times.
