Afzal Ahmed Syed’s poem: A Global Perspective

Globalization is a defining phenomenon of the contemporary era, shaping society, culture, civilization, identity, and literature. Modern Urdu nazm has critically engaged with these transformations, and Afzal Ahmed Syed stands as a prominent contemporary poet whose work reflects individual anguish, identity crises, cultural shifts, and the erosion of historical heritage. His poetry embodies globalization’s impact, often articulated through symbolism and metaphor. This study analyzes selected poems of Syed using textual and analytical methods, situating them within intellectual, cultural, and civilizational contexts. The findings reveal that globalization in his poetry is not merely a socio-economic process but a complex human experience, moving from personal suffering to collective consciousness. His work thus offers a nuanced reflection of globalization’s multifaceted dimensions.
