Abstract

This article explores the portrayal of Lahore’s literary personalities in the travelogues of Mustansar Hussain Tarar, one of Pakistan’s most prolific and influential Urdu writers. Renowned for redefining the genre of safar-nama (travel writing) with his vivid narrative style, personal reflections, and cultural depth, Tarar frequently weaves Lahore    the cultural and literary heart of Pakistan into his journeys, both literal and introspective. Through works such as Lahore Awargi, alongside references in other travelogues and writings, Tarar presents a dynamic mosaic of Lahore’s literary figures, capturing their idiosyncrasies, intellectual contributions, and lived experiences within the city’s bustling streets, cafes, and literary circles. His depictions blend nostalgia, humor, and acute observation, transforming personal encounters and collective memory into a vibrant chronicle of Lahore’s enduring literary heritage.
